Founder & CEO

Abubakar founded Solargen in 2010 while at the University of Nairobi to provide solar solutions to under-served communities. He previously worked with Equity Bank through their pre-university program.

Badr has extensive experience in financial management, audit, and Islamic finance. He worked with EY and Hass Petroleum before joining Solargen.

Jacob holds a BSc. Civil and Structural Engineering from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. He has previously implemented KIWASH projects with Losai Management Consultants.

He is a registered member of the Engineering Board of Kenya.

JOSEPH Muema

Retail and Trade Manager

Muema has a background in Renewable Energy, Technology and Management from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and technology. He joined as an Associate Solutions engineer and has grown into our Distribution Manager. He is an expert in Technical solar sales, designs and implementation of all solar solutions in energy and water divisions.Previously he worked as a Plant Controller with Unifilters Company Limited.

Operations Manager

Agnes joined Solargen as a Technical and Sales Engineer and has grown into our operations Manager. She previously worked with the Science & Technology Park, UoN in partnership with Concern Worldwide on the Maker for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health Project. She holds a B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi.

Ahmed has a background in community development & supply chain management from KIM
He joined us as an operations officer and later grown to be our Regional manager-Northern Kenya
He is expert in office operations and logistical matters
He previously worked as field operation manager for space explores limited and sales representative for Pegler Paints.

  • Year 2010 - 2011

    Solargen is founded

    Solargen is Founded in the hostels of University of Nairobi and opens it’s Headquaters in Nairobi, Kenya

  • Year 2012 - 2013

    Seed capital and Maiden project

    1. Solargen raises seed capital and sets up operation in Mogadishu, Somalia
    2. Installs first solar water pumping system for a borehole in Mogadishu to supply to a camp for internally displaced people
    3. Signs partnerships with leading solar equipment manufactures in the industry such as Lorentz and Victron
  • Year 2014 - 2015

    Exponential Growth in Somalia Operations

    1. Solargen is selected from 47 companies for interest-free financing by Somalia Stability Fund (SSF)
    2. Installs its first solar water pumping system for irrigation in a 100-acre farm in Afgoye, Somalia
    3. Opens new branch in Hargeisa, Somaliland
    4. Solargen implements a pilot project meant to solarize 3 boreholes for rural communities in Somaliland
  • Year 2016 - 2017

    Notable Milestone and Expansion of Kenya Operations

    1. Solargen solarizes its 100th community borehole in Somalia
    2. Project implementation of 4 solar mini-grids in Kenya for its partners
    3. Launch of  distribution business division to sell solar equipment to installers in region.

     

  • Year 2018 - 2019

    Awards and Increased Projects in East Africa

    1. Solargen commissions its maiden projects in Uganda, Tanzania and 3 solar community mini- grids in Somalia
    2. Solargen installs solar power system for the 200th borehole
    3. Receives Murabaha Financing from SIMA Fund and completes the repayment of its financing from Somalia Stability Fund (SSF)
    4. Wins Greater Good Microgrid Award 2019 for our mini-grid work for refugee returnees from Dadaab, Kenya to Kismayo, Somalia
  • Year 2020 - 2021

    The Hanti brand and Ethopia’s Maiden Project

    1. Solargen introduces its own brand of Hanti products to offer the market reliability
    2. USADF grants Solargen an award to implement solar powered irrigation projects for farmers in Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties using the PAYGO financing model
    3. Solargen wins first contract to build a solar-powered desalination plant in Kenya and completes first project in Ethiopia
  • Year 2022 - 2023

    Northern HQ Office Opens

    1. Solargen commissions its Northern HQ Office in Wajir
    2. Solargen installs 15 kW off-grid solar power system for the office with a 24,000 ltrs per day Brackish water Treatment
    3. New Wajir branch opens bringing services closer to the Northern Frontier Counties
